She had heard the buzz about Workfare from her Facebook page by the time Mdm Norjahan's company informed her about the WTS Scheme and Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) courses available to her.

"I've always been interested in knowledge building and training courses related to my work, so I was very happy when my company arranged for me to upgrade my skills through attending courses," said Mdm Norjahan.

Of the eight courses she has taken so far, Mdm Norjahan's favourites include Interact with Guests, which teaches employees the theories and practices on how to better handle different types of customers, as well as the WSQ Proven Payment Course, which familiarises employees with the latest Point-Of-Sale (POS) systems.

As an employee, Mdm Norjahan also receives WIS in cash and in CPF four times a year. When asked for her thoughts on Workfare, Mdm Norjahan says, "It is a good thing – the government incentivises me through WIS and I get to learn new skills when my employer sends me for training under WTS. The WIS cash supplement helps with my daily costs of living, and the CPF contribution helps me save for my healthcare and retirement needs."
